Department of Interior Architecture

Creative design of spaces and wise use of color, light and harmony are believed to increase comfort. Therefore, humans seek to use them in architecture, particularly interior architecture in order to have more beautiful and comfortable shelters. This attitude underlines the need for academic programs in interior architecture as an interdiscipline of painting, sculpture and other disciplines dealing with volume and color.

Bachelor’s program in interior architecture aims to train professional workforce familiar with scientific principles of interior architecture. Its students not only develop general skills in architecture but also gain knowledge about color, light texture, sound, ratio and scale, composition and layout, building techniques and methods, interior space facilities, quality and application of materials and so on.

The USC Department of Interior Architecture aims to reach the following objectives:

  • To train skillful and intellectually curious graduates with appropriate knowledge and skills in interior architecture.
  • To train graduates who are equipped with knowledge about materials and tools.
  • To pave the way for its graduates to serve the society and cooperate with governmental and non-governmental organizations and companies such as Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Municipality, Islamic Council and so on.

Its graduates would have the opportunity to engage in the following activities:

  • Do research in interior architecture
  • Implement different stage of interior architecture projects
  • Assess and evaluate interior architecture works
  • Study, analyze and realize traditional patterns and designs and their relationship with the dominant culture and ideology of society
  • Teach interior design
  • Design and decorate the interiors of offices, airport terminals, theatres, shopping malls, restaurants, exhibitions, schools, universities, hospitals, private residences, etc.
  • Re-use and transform existing structures

Duration and Details

It takes four years, including eight 16-week-long semesters to complete a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture. The students should take a total of 135 credits; 21 general credits, 34 basic credits, 27 major credits, 39 specialized credits and eight elective credits. They should also write a six-credit thesis.
